The arrival of summer

Summer has hit in the Big Hole River, and as you may expect, so have the mosquitoes. But, that hasn’t slowed down local anglers from checking out the river. We have had an extremely busy week at the shop.

The top water fishing has turned on in the past few days; river clarity is very good (4-5 feet). There are a lot of Golden Stone nymphs crawling towards the bank, so we expect to have good dry fly fishing with a golden stone pattern or #12 golden chubby. Also be on the look out for drakes (green and brown), caddis (dark gray and black), and beetles and ants on breezy days. Underneath we have been using size #10 and #12 Light brown Pats stone, caddis emergers and #12 Gold Lightning bug.
