Opening March 31

The Fly Shop will be open for the season, this Saturday, March 31 at 9 AM. The last couple of weeks have brought many changes to the outside and inside of the shop. We are excited for the final product, which is near completion. Be sure to stop in or give us a call! The fly bins are going to be stuffed this year, with lots of new patterns from Solitude, Delekta and Montana Fly Company. We will also be carrying our usual collection of Scott Fly Rods and Lamson fly reels. If a custom rod is in your future, be sure to check out the rods from the folks at Montana Rodsmiths! We fished their saltwater rod in Andros, and it was awesome!

We are looking forward to a great year on the Big Hole River. The snowpack and related Snow Water Equivalent is looking terrific for our region, and the rest of the drainages in Western Montana. Our days and nights have been staying cold, which allows the snow to stay up in the mountains. With any luck, we will have a cool April as well.

The river has been fluctuating between about 400 and 600 CFS, from Maiden Rock down, which is a reflection of the cool temps. And the river temperatures remain cold, averaging about 42 degrees during the day. The upper river (above Jerry Creek), is still quite frozen.

As always, don’t hesitate to give us a call at (406)267-3346 for more info. Don’t forget about our Spring Fishing Special, which is good through May 10. And lastly, Big Al arrives back from Andros today!
