Today is the opening day of the general fishing season in Montana.
The Big Hole is still running at 3140 cfs but in my opinion is non-fishable.
The upper Beaverhead opens today and it will probably be a bit crowded but it should fish pretty well. Small nymphs, pheasant tail, copper john, wd40 will all produce fish along with the old reliable san whammy. The river below Grasshopper Ck. is still off color but the fishing is good. We floated below Selway Bridge yesterday and picked up some nice brown’s between 14 and 18 inches on small nymphs and a few on a brown wooly bugger. There were a few caddis and baetis around but no activity on top. For the most current update on the Beav. call Bob Hartwell at Uncle Bob’s Outdoors in Dillon, 406-683-2692.
