The Big Hole River is finally starting to have a jump in flows, and we expect to see June run-off continue for the next week to ten days, and hoping for longer! We always like to remind river users to use caution around the river, as flows can change quickly and unexpectedly. There is still a chance of floating debris coming down the river.
In the meantime, anglers are still having good streamer fishing. Be ready to change to larger and heavier streamers as the river flows increase. The nymph fishing should continue to improve as stoneflies begin to migrate towards the banks, don’t forget to put a worm under those stone nymphs! The caddis are sporadic, and dry fly fishing with small bugs will be more difficult as the river flows increase.
As busy season on the Big Hole draws closer, we would like to remind anglers to: land fish with a net, keep ‘em wet and please be patient and courteous in the busy boat ramps. If you plan to drive up river from Divide, be aware of some work being done in the canyon to clear rocks from the road. As always Shuttles are available daily, and don’t forget to stop in for your last minute flies.
